Cool days and chill nights mean we are all spending more time in our home sweet homes. Combined with working remotely or living in close quarters with others may make you wonder: How long can I look at the same four walls? We asked our decorator friend Christine Norton for a little advice. She owns the home-staging service Staged Affairs and knows how to create warm, inviting interiors that complement her clients’ existing furniture and home décor.

AB Homes is Military Proud
by Brandon Simpson and Dan Lawson
Like our neighbors here in Southeastern Virginia, AB Homes is military proud. Our region is home to 16 military bases, so there’s a good chance residents know some of the service men and women who work in our communities. They are among our neighbors and friends. We see them at the gym, the grocery store and all around town. Military members are also our clients, and we know what it means when they have to move to a new base or a Permanent Change of Command Station.
Rent, Buy, or Build?
With each move, service members must decide whether to rent, buy, or build their home—all within an accelerated time frame. Our AB Homes specialists have worked with many military families over the years. We go the distance to make certain their home-building process is seamless and swift.
Here’s an example. Recently, we built a home for a Navy couple in the process of relocating from Washington, D.C., to Norfolk to report to a new command. They had older children leaving their nest, and wanted to make this next place their retirement home.
As a first step, we met the couple at our model home showroom to look at floor plans, standard features and customizable options. Once they decided on a layout, we showed them properties that suited the style of the home design. We maintain an inventory of beautiful lots, saving them another step. Next, they met with our expert VA Loan Mortgage Lender Avery Tuell to discuss financing options.
Within a few days of our initial meeting, they signed the purchase contract—and we got to work building the home of their dreams. As they were wrapping up things in D.C., we touched base with them by Skype, Facetime and email to discuss building milestones and addressed any questions. Four months later, when they arrived in Virginia for good, the home was move-in ready with appliances in the kitchen and blinds in every window.
We understand that time is precious—especially for our military clients who may be between deployments, or—like this couple—relocating from another command. Going the custom-built route can be a more efficient, easier process than buying a new or resale home. You’re getting exactly what you want, without having to spend days or weeks looking at properties. And one more thing—with AB Homes, we assure you the final product will be shipshape.
