Meet Dwayne and Lisa Gaede, for our homeowner spotlight, the Gaede’s. They are among the newest members of the AB Home’s family. As empty-nesters who lived in the same house in Virginia Beach, VA for over 20 years, they were ready for a change. Sooner than later, their home would need additional updates and repairs. They were also interested in moving to a quieter area with more space and privacy, and they wanted to transition to a home with a 1st-floor primary suite. They considered purchasing a fixer-upper, but after spending years making their previous home truly their own, they weren’t interested in a project home. Bring in the Somerton II!
One of the things that they appreciated most about working with AB Homes, is that they could truly customize their home to meet their needs. Having toured multiple new-construction communities in areas such as Suffolk, Williamsburg, and even Elizabeth City and Moyock, they were surprised to learn that they could not request modifications to any of the homes. As dog-lovers, they needed a large room to lounge around in with their senior rescues. AB Homes converted what is often used as a bedroom into a large open space fit for their fur family.
The finish selections in the new-construction neighborhoods were also limited. Such communities offer options for flooring, cabinetry, and countertops only as a package deal. For example, if you prefer one cabinetry option over another, you’re stuck with the flooring and countertops that come with that “pallet.” Lisa was set on having dark flooring in her new home. It’s a brand new home – why shouldn’t you have what you want?!
They were also surprised when they discovered how many items were not included in any of the new homes they were touring. For instance, the blinds. The time and cost associated with measuring, purchasing, and installing window treatments for an entire home wasn’t something they wanted to have to worry about. With AB Homes, it simply isn’t – Dwayne and Lisa appreciated having a truly turnkey home.
What’s more, the lot sizes of the homes they were considering in the cookie-cutter neighborhoods were all well under a half of an acre. For less than the price of any of the homes they viewed, they ended up with a home on over 2 acres of land. They’re now living the dream with their pups in Ivor, Va.
